Codar, an African edtech company backed by KWE4 Africa Venture Studio, has secured USD 1.5 million in a funding round that will accelerate the expansion of its AI and digital skills training programs across the continent.
The financing, structured as a mix of equity and debt, will support new learning hubs, platform upgrades, scholarship programs, and broader access to career-focused technology education.
The investment comes as African businesses increase spending on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and software development while facing a shortage of skilled technology professionals.
Codar plans to use the new capital to strengthen its AI curriculum alongside existing programs in software engineering, cybersecurity, data analytics, cloud computing, and other high-demand digital fields.
The company will also enhance its online learning platform, establish additional physical learning centers, and expand scholarships for learners from underserved communities.
“Our mission has always been bigger than teaching people how to code,” a Codar spokesperson said. “We’re building a generation of African innovators who will solve local problems with global technology. This investment validates our vision and gives us the resources to reach thousands more learners.”
Founded by Sokefun David, Williams Olusegun, Oduoye John, and Asaolu Emmanuel, Codar was established to make world-class technology education more affordable and accessible across Africa.
The company delivers practical, project-based training that equips learners with hands-on experience through real-world assignments, collaborative projects, and portfolio development, preparing graduates for careers in AI engineering, machine learning, software development, data analytics, and other fast-growing technology sectors.
Codar currently serves more than 5,000 active learners and says it has reached over 70,000 students through its various training programs and initiatives.
Beyond technical instruction, the company is expanding mentorship programs, strengthening industry partnerships, and building career pathways designed to connect graduates with employment opportunities in Africa and international technology markets.
With fresh capital in place, Codar aims to scale its impact through expanded AI education, multilingual learning opportunities, and internationally recognized certification pathways.
