The Empower Africa Business Platform is Now Live !!!
Nairobi-based logistics technology company Leta has secured $5 million in seed funding to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platform.
The funding aims to help the company improve how goods are transported across Africa.
According to a report by TechCrunch, the funding round was led by European investment firm Speedinvest.
Other investors include Google’s Africa Investment Fund and Equator, a climate-focused fund that supports African startups.
The investment highlights growing interest in using AI to solve logistics challenges and cut costs in Africa’s supply chain sector.
Founded in 2021 by Ibrahim Donga, Leta is focused on addressing the high cost and inefficiencies of moving goods, especially in last-mile delivery.
The company’s platform works by connecting with systems that businesses already use—such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), point of sale (POS), and order management systems (OMS). This allows it to access important order data like product details, pricing, and customer information.
With this data, Leta’s AI system automatically selects the best vehicle for each delivery and decides the most efficient way to load goods—using methods like first-in, first-out (FIFO) or last-in, first-out (LIFO).
The system also creates dispatch plans and delivery manifests automatically, making operations smoother for businesses in sectors like retail, manufacturing, and distribution.
Since its pre-seed round in 2022, Leta has grown rapidly, increasing its delivery numbers from 500,000 to 4.5 million and moving 150,000 tons of goods—up from 20,000 tons. Its managed fleet has also expanded from 2,000 to 7,400 vehicles.
Leta now supports over 35 companies, including well-known brands like KFC and Diageo.
It currently manages more than 10,000 deliveries each day across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zambia.
With the new funding, Leta plans to grow further into more countries in Africa and the Middle East, strengthening its position in the logistics technology space.
