Tarneem Saeed is a Sudanese lawyer and entrepreneur leading one of the most exciting digital transformations in Sudan.
She is the founder and CEO of Alsoug, the country’s largest online marketplace, which helps people buy and sell goods and services easily.
Through her work, she is helping to bring Sudan into the digital economy.
Tarneem grew up in Sudan but moved to Canada at the age of 14 to continue her education.
She later studied law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and worked as a corporate lawyer in London with a global law firm.
In 2014, during a visit to Sudan, she saw how difficult it was for people to access simple market information or buy and sell online.
That experience inspired her to take action.
In 2015, she started Alsoug to make it easier for people in Sudan to connect, trade, and share information online.
What began as a simple platform for checking prices has now grown into a full digital marketplace with payment and delivery services.
One of Alsoug’s key innovations is Cashi, a digital payment system that makes it easier for people to pay for goods and services securely.
Tarneem’s work has opened new doors for Sudan’s digital economy.
Her startup became the first in the country to attract international investment after sanctions were lifted—raising $5 million from major investors, including Egypt’s fintech leader Fawry.
Through her leadership, Tarneem is not only creating new economic opportunities but also showing what’s possible when bold ideas meet determination.
She continues to break barriers in a challenging environment and is working toward expanding digital access and financial services to more people across Sudan and Africa.
