EU-Funded AgriFI Backs Ghana's Complete Farmer with $2.5M Investment to Empower Smallholder Farmers

| Article

Complete Farmer, a pioneering agritech company based in Ghana, has secured an investment of approximately €2.2 million (equivalent to $2.5 million) from the European Union-backed AgriFI initiative.

This funding, channeled through the EDFI Management Company, aims to bolster the company’s expansion strategy and facilitate the development of agricultural infrastructure in northern Ghana.

The financial injection will be instrumental in the establishment of six new fulfilment centres across the country’s five northern regions.

These hubs are designed to serve as vital nodes for product aggregation, quality assurance, and logistics coordination, significantly improving the agricultural value chain where infrastructure is currently inadequate.

The initiative is in line with the strategic objectives of the AgriFI Ghana Country Window, which targets increased agricultural productivity and rural development.

By strengthening market links and agricultural services, the project is expected to benefit over 5,000 smallholder farmers, stimulate employment opportunities, and enhance rural livelihoods in historically underserved areas.

Speaking on the impact of the investment, Irchad Razaaly, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ghana, emphasized its broader implications:
“This support is not just for Complete Farmer—it extends to thousands of farmers across northern Ghana. The new fulfilment centres, together with an improved digital platform, will enable farmers to access high-quality inputs and expert guidance more easily, while facilitating the sale of their produce. This translates into smoother operations, increased yields, and higher earnings.”

Rodrigo Madrazo García de Lomana, CEO of EDFI Management Company, echoed the sentiment, saying:

“Our partnership with Complete Farmer reinforces our commitment to inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth in Ghana. By supporting the company’s expansion into underserved regions, we’re helping strengthen supply chains and extend tangible benefits to both growers and consumers.”

Founded in 2017 by Ghanaian innovator Desmond Koney, Complete Farmer leverages technology to streamline the agricultural process.

Its digital platform connects farmers directly with buyers and suppliers, ensuring high-quality, export-ready produce that meets market demand.

The company’s overarching goal is to support 50,000 Ghanaian farmers by 2028.
