African Changemaker

Cina Lawson

Cina is currently serving as Togo’s Minister of Posts, Digital Economy and Technological Innovation.

Drawing from over 20 years of experience and expertise in digital policy and telecommunication, Cina has led Togo’s successful transition to an inclusive digital economy.

Under her leadership, Togo became the first West African country to deploy 5G services.
She has also played a prominent role in increasing digital service penetration in her country, with a majority of the population now having access to mobile telephony.

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she spearheaded Togo’s flagship digital cash transfer program, “Novissi,” which delivered cash transfers to nearly a million of the poorest Togolese citizens.

To date, Novissi is hailed as one of the world’s most successful COVID-19 social protection programs.
Cina has received international accolades for her work, including from the World Economic Forum, Forbes, and Jeune Afrique.
