Soy Afric: Fighting Hunger Across Borders
Kenya-based Soy Afric manufactures fortified flours and porridges designed for vulnerable populations in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Its best-known product, Unimix, is widely used in school feeding programs, hospitals, and humanitarian relief efforts.
Other products like Nutridense and Tender Mercies are tailored to provide low-income households with affordable, nutrient-rich food.
With a production capacity of up to 80 metric tons per day, Soy Afric works alongside international organizations such as USAID, the UN, and the Red Cross to deliver food aid and run nutrition programs.
These efforts are especially critical as nearly 36% of school-age children and adolescents in Kenya suffer from malnutrition, according to the African Population and Health Research Center.
Mkuza Chicks: Empowering Poultry Farmers in Tanzania
Founded in 1999, Mkuza Chicks is one of Tanzania’s largest poultry operations.
The company supports over 2,000 smallholder farmers annually and operates a vertically integrated system covering hatcheries, egg production, and processing.
It supplies affordable chicken meat and eggs to low- and middle-income consumers across Tanzania.
With fresh long-term funding from N3F, Mkuza plans to rebuild and modernize its poultry houses and introduce automation for critical functions such as feeding, watering, and temperature regulation.
These upgrades aim to boost productivity and ensure a steady supply of quality poultry products.
Rainbow Haulage: Bridging Farmers to Big Markets
Also based in Tanzania, Rainbow Haulage focuses on staple crop aggregation and trade.
The company sources maize, sorghum, soya, and beans from 18 cooperatives and 30 commercial farmers.
It plays a key role in connecting smallholder producers to major institutional buyers such as the World Food Programme, Africa Improved Foods, and Tanzania’s National Food Reserve Agency.
N3F’s backing will help Rainbow Haulage increase its procurement and distribution capabilities, improving food supply chains and supporting food security initiatives across the country.
Incofin and N3F’s Broader Impact
The Nutritious Food Financing Facility (N3F) was established by GAIN and is managed by Incofin.
It targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are vital to increasing the availability and accessibility of nutritious foods in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Incofin and GAIN are working to ensure that affordable, nutritious food reaches those who need it most—especially low-income communities.
The initiative demonstrates how blended finance can drive public health impact while supporting business growth in emerging markets.
