The transaction marks the start of a wider financing partnership that will support new mobile network operator agreements and higher messaging volumes across the continent.
Monty Mobile International is the African hub of Monty Mobile Limited.
The company provides application-to-person messaging infrastructure that connects businesses and digital platforms with customers through mobile networks.
These messages include one-time passwords, transaction alerts, financial notifications, delivery updates and other automated communications.
The service is an important part of the systems used by banks, fintech companies, e-commerce platforms and other digital businesses. It allows companies to verify users, confirm transactions and share time-sensitive information without requiring customers to open an app or maintain an active internet connection.
Monty Mobile currently operates in 35 African countries through 15 partnerships with mobile network operators.
These agreements give the company access to an addressable market of approximately 66 million consumers.
Its markets include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda.
“Monty Mobile combines essential digital infrastructure with a scalable, asset-light business model,” said Fulton Shiundu, a partner at BluePeak Private Capital.
He said the investment would help the company grow while strengthening services increasingly used by financial institutions, businesses and digital platforms.
The investment comes as African companies handle a growing number of digital transactions but continue to operate in markets with uneven internet access.
According to the International Telecommunication Union’s 2025 report on digital development in Africa, 66% of people aged 10 and older owned a mobile phone in 2024, while only 38% of the population used the internet.
This gap helps explain the continued commercial value of SMS-based communication.
A standard text message can reach customers using basic phones or living in areas with unreliable mobile data. For banks and digital businesses, that reach is particularly important when sending security codes, payment confirmations and account notifications.
Demand is also supported by the scale of Africa’s mobile financial services market.
The GSMA’s 2025 State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money found that Sub-Saharan Africa had more than 1.1 billion registered mobile money accounts in 2024.
Growth in mobile payments, online retail and digital financial services is increasing the number of customer interactions that require secure and timely messages.
“Africa is an important growth market for Monty Mobile,” said founder and CEO Mountasser Hachem. He said the new capital would help the company build stronger operator relationships, enter additional markets and serve more businesses.
Hachem added that BluePeak’s experience in African markets made the investment firm a suitable partner for the company’s expansion.
BluePeak Fund II secured an $80 million first close in May 2025, backed by British International Investment, FMO, Swedfund and the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets.
The fund was established to provide growth financing to mid-sized African businesses that often struggle to obtain capital on suitable terms.
