The facility will allow organizations to process and host data within Egypt while using GPU-as-a-Service capabilities to train, deploy, and run AI models at scale.

Vodafone Business will provide customers with access to the infrastructure through its partnership with Cassava Technologies, Africa’s first NVIDIA cloud partner.

The companies said the AI factory will support a range of local use cases across government and industry.

Local data hosting is particularly relevant for organizations that must meet regulatory, cybersecurity, and data-residency requirements while adopting AI tools that require significant computing capacity.

Mahmoud El-Khatib, Vice President of Enterprise Business at Vodafone Egypt, said the partnership would strengthen the country’s capacity to develop sovereign AI services using globally available technologies hosted locally.

“Through this collaboration, we are strengthening Egypt’s AI infrastructure capabilities and developing sovereign AI solutions by leveraging locally hosted global technologies that ensure data residency within Egypt,” El-Khatib said.

“This is achieved through the delivery of GPU-as-a-Service, enabling organizations to access advanced computing capabilities more efficiently and rapidly.”

Accelerated computing has become a central requirement for companies and public institutions building AI applications, especially those involving large-scale model training and real-time inference.

The new infrastructure is intended to reduce the barriers Egyptian organizations face when accessing high-performance AI computing while keeping sensitive workloads in-country.

The partnership will also provide specialized training and enablement programs within the NVIDIA ecosystem. These programs are designed to help organizations build AI skills and improve their ability to deploy and manage AI systems.

Ahmed El Beheiry, Group Chief Technology & AI Officer and CEO of Cassava AI, said the project would give Egyptian businesses the infrastructure needed to participate more actively in AI development while retaining control over their data.

“Our goal, from this partnership with Vodafone, is to give Egypt the infrastructure to unlock the potential of its technology industry and to allow it to contribute to the global AI innovation scene, without compromising sovereignty,” El Beheiry said.

The AI factory forms part of Vodafone Egypt’s broader digital infrastructure investment program.

The company has committed more than approximately $392 million for the current fiscal year, based on the exchange rate at the time of the announcement, and says it has invested more than approximately $2.45 billion in Egypt over 28 years.

For Egypt, the project adds locally based high-performance computing capacity at a time when countries are seeking to complement global cloud services with sovereign infrastructure.

It could support the growth of AI-focused businesses, strengthen the country’s appeal for data-center and technology investment, and give local institutions a more direct route to adopting advanced digital services.
