Senegalese eMobility and energy startup Solarbox Africa announced the successful closure of a $1 million pre-seed funding round.
The round was spearheaded by notable early-stage investors, including Digital Energy Facility (a collaboration led by Agence Française de Développement, IetP, and Gaia Impact Fund), Launch Africa, JLL Foundation, and Teranga Capital.
In a statement, Solarbox Africa revealed that the funds would be instrumental in addressing the growing demand for its innovative solutions within Senegal and neighboring regions.
Solarbox Africa, incubated by Wuri Ventures, specializes in designing, assembling, and deploying custom light electric vehicles (two- and three-wheelers) tailored for corporate clients.
Its services are complemented by solar charging infrastructure, financing options, and fleet management systems.
Over the past year, Solarbox Africa has secured partnerships with leading organizations in Senegal, including Orange Energies, FedEx, Paps Logistics, Plastic Odyssey, Swiss Fresh Water, Health in a Box, and Fleetch.
These collaborations highlight Solarbox Africa’s ability to support businesses in transitioning to cleaner mobility solutions.
“Within a year, Solarbox Africa has proven its ability to attract major corporate clients with tailored, win-win solutions while designing products that meet local needs,” said Paul-Francois Cattier, senior venture partner at On.Capital, the company’s first institutional investor.
“This pre-seed round positions Solarbox as Senegal’s leading electric mobility provider, with a strong foundation for profitability and growth.”
