Sierra Leone Gets Its First Digital Banking Super App with Support from Velmie

Global banking technology company Velmie has supported the launch of Vult, Sierra Leone’s first digital banking super app, to help expand access to financial services in the country.

The app is already live and attracting attention, according to Velmie, which partnered with Metro Cable, a local broadband provider, to make the launch possible.

This marks a major step forward for digital finance in the country and shows how technology built on scalable, API-based systems can speed up financial inclusion efforts.

The rollout comes as the World Bank highlights steady progress in Sub-Saharan Africa’s financial inclusion, driven by mobile money services.

However, there is still work to be done, especially in ensuring fair access across different groups — including women, low-income earners, and the uneducated.

Velmie CEO Slava Ivashkin said his team is proud to support this transformation.

“Vult is not just a product. It’s part of a bigger mission to bring real, inclusive financial change,” he noted.

He added that the project shows how innovation can be both advanced and locally grounded. “Working with Metro Cable allowed us to blend strong technology with real community knowledge,” he explained.

Vult combines multiple financial services in one easy-to-use app — including mobile money, card and banking transactions, and bill payments. It’s powered by Velmie’s banking platform, which helped bring the app to life in under six months.

The company says its modular and flexible design allows for quick rollout and long-term growth.

This helps improve financial access for people without bank accounts while still offering reliable tools for those already using formal banking services.

Velmie’s Chief Marketing Officer Paul Shumsky described the launch as a major leap for the continent. “This isn’t just an app. It’s a strong foundation for financial empowerment in Africa,” he said.

Aminata Bangura, head of product at Vult, echoed this, saying:

“Velmie’s technology allowed us to build something that fits our market and is ready to grow. We’re proud to offer high-quality financial services to Sierra Leoneans — and this is just the beginning.”
