Financing for Agricultural SMEs in Africa (FASA) has completed its first investment, committing $5 million to Catalyst Fund.
This pan-African venture capital firm backs startups building climate adaptation solutions across Africa.
The investment is expected to support entrepreneurs developing technologies and services that help communities respond to the worsening effects of climate change, including prolonged droughts, unpredictable weather conditions, and rising food insecurity.
FASA operates as a fund-of-funds focused on improving access to financing for small and medium-sized agricultural businesses across Africa.
The initiative works by investing in fund managers that support businesses contributing to sustainable agricultural growth and resilience. Impact investment group Investisseurs & Partenaires manage the platform.
According to the announcement, FASA’s early commitment played a major role in helping Catalyst Fund attract additional support from both public and private investors, enabling the fund to secure a total of $30 million in committed capital.
Catalyst Fund has increasingly positioned itself as a key player in Africa’s climate-tech ecosystem.
The fund supports early-stage startups developing solutions in areas such as climate-smart agriculture, clean energy, food systems, waste management, and financial resilience for vulnerable communities.
Africa remains one of the regions most vulnerable to climate change despite contributing only a small share of global carbon emissions.
Experts say the continent faces growing risks from extreme weather events, declining agricultural productivity, and disrupted food systems, creating urgent demand for local climate adaptation solutions.
Investor interest in African climate-tech startups has also been growing steadily in recent years. Research from Catalyst Fund and other ecosystem players shows that climate-focused ventures are attracting a rising share of venture capital funding on the continent as investors seek businesses capable of addressing environmental challenges while creating economic opportunities.
