Gabonese telematics and fleet management startup POZI has raised €650,000 (about USD 690,000) in a funding round led by Saviu Ventures, with participation from Emsy Capital and advisory firm Chazai Wamba
The investment marks a first for Gabon, making POZI the country’s pioneering tech startup to attract foreign venture capital funding.
“This investment isn’t just a victory for POZI — it signals growing confidence in Gabon’s tech capacity,” said Loïc Kapitho, POZI’s co-founder and CEO.
He added that the milestone demonstrates how Gabonese startups can gain the confidence of global investors while pursuing bold regional expansion.
Founded in Libreville in 2020, POZI connects over 2,500 vehicles for clients that range from national operators to multinational firms. Its platform uses AI-driven analytics to predict mechanical issues, reduce operational costs, and improve fleet safety.
Buoyed by domestic traction, POZI plans to extend its footprint to Côte d’Ivoire in 2025.
As part of its longer-term roadmap, the company aims to eventually oversee a network of 35,000 vehicles across 10 African countries by 2030.
The funding comes at a challenging moment for African tech ventures, with Partech Africa reporting that equity investments on the continent totaled USD 2.2 billion in 2024, remaining flat year-over-year.
In contrast, overall startup financing, which includes debt, decreased to USD 3.2 billion in 2024 — a 7 per cent decline compared to 2023.
Central Africa remains one of the least tapped regions by venture capital. In 2024, it drew only USD 5 million, accounting for 0.2 percent of total African VC flows.
For Gabon — a country actively seeking to diversify its economy and support homegrown innovation — the emergence of a locally born startup landing international backing is a promising sign.
POZI’s success may not only pave the way for more tech ventures in Gabon, but also help raise the nation’s profile in Africa’s broader innovation ecosystem.
