The new service offers faster internet through enhanced mobile broadband and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) for home users.

The launch followed a license award ceremony at the Palais du Gouvernement in La Kasbah.

 

The event was attended by the Head of Government and the Minister of Communication Technologies. Commercial 5G services began on February 14.

Tunisie Telecom is using two types of 5G network setups. One uses the newly allocated 3.5 GHz frequency band, which allows for higher speeds and better performance.

 

The other setup reuses parts of the existing 4G network, especially the 2100 and 1800 MHz bands, to ensure a smoother transition to 5G. Some of the 5G sites have already achieved download speeds as high as 2.1 Gbps.

This is the first time the 3.5 GHz band is being used in Tunisia, offering a wider spectrum and faster data speeds.

 

The company is also deploying 5G using Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), which works alongside the current mobile network to improve coverage across different regions.

Ericsson partnered with Tunisie Telecom to make the 5G launch possible within a tight timeline set by the Ministry of ICT.

 

Despite challenges with the network’s complexity, both teams managed to complete the rollout successfully.

 

Ericsson will continue working with the telecom operator to support Tunisia’s Digital Strategy 2025, which aims to strengthen the country’s digital economy and social development.
