My name is Leonard Bangura, i was born and raised in Goderich in the western part Sierra Leone on the 8th January 1995. I was the last of 3 children, with two elder brothers.
I sat my BECE at the SOS Hermann Gmiener International School Freetown, and my WASSCE at The Sierra Leone Grammar School in 2014. Then i started college at NCC England through an affiliated college in Sierra studying Business Information Technology (BIT), in which I received a global award for achieving the 3 highest mark at L3DBIT, but I stopped at level 4 due to financial constraints.
I started drawing and painting at a very young age, but i payed more attention to it after I dropped out of college at around 2019, and since then i have found joy in art. I can do painting, drawing , graffiti and can also customized jeans.
Meaning of the painting: The painting is inspired from the story behind FGM. Which has been within our society for decades now. Yet, it has a sweeter part of it (which is grooming and teaching female the way of life) and the bitter part with is the mutilation of the female genital part hardly spoken about in our culture.
So I use this as an inspiration for my painting.
Half part of the face represents happiness (sweet) and half sadness or regret(bitter). With some form of cubism and deconstruction.
